Carl Michael Ziehrer

Carl Michael Ziehrer conducted both civilian and military bands in Vienna, undertaking extensive tours and establishing himself as a leading figure in Austrian popular music. From 1885 to 1893, he conducted the "Wiener Edelknaben" (Vienna Noble Boys) and the Hoch- und Deutschmeister. In this capacity, he also represented the Austrian Empire at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, where he achieved resounding success. In 1908, he became the fourth and last Court Ball Music Director, following Johann Strauss Sr., Jr., and Eduard Strauss. With the collapse of the monarchy, his positions and achievements came to an end. He died in impoverished circumstances in Vienna in 1922.
