Philipp Fahrbach sen.

Philipp Fahrbach Senior was initially a flautist in Johann Strauss Sr.'s orchestra. In 1835, he founded his own orchestra, where he held his own alongside Strauss Sr. and Lanner, even representing the Strauss orchestra at court and chamber balls when they were abroad. From 1841 to 1846, he served as bandmaster of the Vienna House Regiment of the Hoch- und Deutschmeister, and later in the same capacity with Infantry Regiment 14. He was among the most popular and accomplished military bandmasters of his time and made significant contributions to maintaining and raising the standard of military bands. He was also the one who—with the highest approval—expanded the Deutschmeister into a symphonic concert orchestra and began performing popular and classical entertainment music. Under his leadership, the era began that would later earn the Deutschmeister the title "The Philharmonic in Uniform."
